U.S. Military and Veterans

SIA is an excellent choice for current members of the U.S. military, veterans, and their families.

Located in a safe, scenic, and family-friendly community known locally as "Happy Valley," the Penn State School of International Affairs (SIA) offers flexible, interdisciplinary graduate programs in international affairs designed to equip you with the knowledge and skills to work at the highest levels of diplomacy, national security, and more.

SIA empowers you to build a degree that fits your career interests, all while learning from an elite faculty comprised of former diplomats, military officers, and foreign policy leaders. And since the GRE is no longer required, it's now easier than ever to apply to the School of International Affairs!

Financial Benefits

  • In-state tuition for veterans: Penn State has always participated at the full amount in the Yellow Ribbon Program; however, the 2016 Choice Act makes this component no longer necessary. All eligible veterans and dependents receiving Chapter 33, Chapter 35, or Fry Scholarship benefits will be eligible for in-state tuition regardless of residency.
  • Application fee waiver: SIA will waive the application fee for any current or retired military personnel, active or reserve component. Contact admissions@sia.psu.edu to receive your fee waiver code.
  • Merit-based financial aid: Submit your application by February 15 to be considered for merit-based scholarships. This evaluation is automatic and does not require any additional forms.
