We offer an Integrated Undergraduate-Graduate (IUG) degree with many Penn State undergraduate programs, as well as two joint degrees with Penn State Dickinson Law—a J.D./M.I.A. and a LL.M./M.I.A. With all joint degree programs, it is especially important to meet with an academic advisor for each of the degrees to ensure that you are following an appropriate sequence of courses, are meeting all of the academic requirements, and understand double-counting credits.
IUG
An Integrated Undergraduate-Graduate (IUG) Program combines bachelor's and master’s degrees into one five-year program. There are many academic benefits to the IUG program, including:
- Double counting up to 12 credits per semester, including some you have already taken;
- Engaging in graduate-level study with expert faculty while earning your bachelor's degree; and
- Accessing all the resources of the Penn State Graduate School as an undergraduate student.

Sequence of Courses
Joint degree students will complete their SIA core courses by the end of the second year of the joint degree program. The third and fourth year of the joint program will be in residence with Penn State Dickinson Law and will include both required law classes and remaining electives to fulfill the M.I.A.
Double-Counting Credits
A maximum of twelve (12) credits for M.I.A. course work may be transferred for credit toward the J.D. degree at Penn State Dickinson Law. Courses eligible for cross-counting towards the J.D. and M.I.A. include the courses on the current M.I.A. electives list and any other courses taken as M.I.A. electives with the express written permission of the S.I.A. and J.D. advisors. Students must obtain a grade satisfactory to the law school for the course work to be credited towards the J.D. degree.

LL.M./M.I.A.
Sequence of Courses:
If accepted in the M.I.A. program, you will complete all of your LL.M. courses during the first year of study at Penn State. Please note you must enroll in at least one INTAF course (3 credits) during your first year of study in the LL.M. program. You will then complete M.I.A. courses by the end of the second year of the joint degree program.
You will work with your advisers from each school to plan courses since many courses are offered on an intermittent basis. Your advisers will help you develop an individualized program schedule that works for you.
Double-Counting Credits:
A maximum of fifteen credits of LL.M. course work may be double-counted for credit toward the M.I.A. degree at Penn State Dickinson Law, with three of those credits being INTAF credits counting towards the LL.M. degree. Courses eligible for double-counting towards the M.I.A. include courses on the Penn State Dickinson Law course catalog and must be approved as eligible to double count by M.I.A. advisers. Students must obtain a satisfactory grade (C or higher) in their courses to be credited towards the M.I.A. degree.
