Purpose:

This concentration prepares students to understand, participate and thrive in the public policy process. Students will identify, study and practice the tools of effective policy-making across an array of disciplinary perspectives (such as security, development, economic, energy, technological, political and environmental) and approaches, (such as theoretical, analytical, and methodological). The approach is hands-on and students will immerse themselves in a variety of critical public policy cases and examples.

Description:

As a result of globalization, the distinction between domestic and international affairs has effectively evaporated. Students engaging in public policy issues need to understand their domestic and international components and crucially the dynamics that link them together. In addition, most critical public policy problems are complex and intertwined. As a result, a single-lens approach is unlikely to lead to effective policy-making. Rather, identifying crucial public policy problems and developing impactful answers requires an interdisciplinary perspective. Using an interdisciplinary approach that seeks to bridge international and domestic dynamics, the concentration in International Public Policy equips students to engage in a variety of vital policy-making processes and topics.
